So I wanted to share with all of you Point Pickers a quick guide to watching the scores and ranks as the weekend develops and the points are updated. As you know, once the first scores have been posted, which is now on Thursday night, you can see every ones picks. If you were not aware of that or don't know how to do this check out the tutorial I made on Viewing others picks.
Because we can now do this, half way through the weekend, you can get an idea of where you stand and if you have a chance come Monday. I have explained it in another video called False Profits and you can check it out on YouTube if you are not much of a reader.
During the early game update and the afternoon games, James Wells was the pickem leader by a point and at 89 points, had a pretty good total by the midway point of NFL weekend. However, as I point out in the video, this was very deceiving. The reason why is important and you should all pay attention to this. It is not how many points you have won that matters, it is how many points you have lost. Why does that matter you say. I mean the more pickem points I get the better right? Well this is why I wanted to bring this to your attention. James if you are reading this I am sorry for making you the goat but it really is a great example. You see although James was the high score picker at that time, he also had 12 negative points but it was masked by the fact that most of his early game winners were high pickem point games and therefore he held the lead for a while. However, this was a house of cards just waiting for the wind of the late game updates to come and crush his point picking lead.
You see, 12 points is a hefty total to lose in one week let alone during the early games only. In case you have not noticed the competition has become fierce and if you are anywhere over -10 I don't think you have much of a chance. Knowing this, it would have been easy to spot that James was not going to end up close to the top being down 12 points and about 5 games left to play. In-fact, he finished 14th and was not even a factor.
Now I am not picking on James, this is not an easy game and when you win it is very addicting. Just last week someone was 12 and 4, great by anyones standards, but was -19, which will keep you out of the top 20 with ease. This is why this game is so much fun. It is a bit like golf where you will curse your picks or the teams for not playing like they should, but you will always be back next week.
